There is a Malfooz of Hadrat Maulana Ilyaas Saheb (RA), wherein he states that our knowledge should spur us onto Amal. If the knowledge does not take us onto Amal, then it is sheer darkness. Amal suppose to create the consciousness of Allah Ta'ala within a person. The consciousness of Allah Ta'ala is supposed to be created through Salaah, Zikr, Tilaawat of the Quraan Sharif, etc. If one does not acquire the consciousness of Allah Ta'ala, then either the Amal being carried out is extremely weak or non-existent. Finally the consciousness of Allah Ta'ala will protect a person from sin.
