Question: 

Dua to be read when entering:

"السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكُمْ أَهْلَ ال دِيََرِ مِنْ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَالْمُسْلِمِينَ، وَ إِنََّّ إِنْ شَاءَ اللََُّّ بِكُمْ لََحِقُونَ، نَسْأَلُ اللَََّّ لَنَا وَلَكُمْ الْعَافِيَ ة

O inmates of the resting abode of the believers, may peace descend upon you from Allah  , Insha-Allah soon we will be joining you. I beg Allah Ta'aala for ease for ourselves and yourselves. i

السَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكُمْ يََ أَهْلَ القُبُورِ، يَغْفِرُ اللََُّّ لَنَا وَلَكُمْ، أَنْتُمْ سَلَفُنَا، وَنََْنُ بِِلأَثَ ر .

O inmates of the graves, may peace descend upon you (from Allah Ta'aala ), May Allah Ta'aala  forgive us and you. You have preceded us (in going towards the Aakhirah) and we are soon to follow.ii

What to be read or recited at the Qabr side:

One can recite any portion of the Quraan and convey the reward of the recitation to the deceased. However, the following Surahs have been specifically mentioned in our Fiqhi books for recitation at the graveyard.

a) Surah Yaaseen.

b) Surah Faatihah.

c) The beginning verses of Surah Baqarah and the ending verses of Surah Baqarah.

d) Aayatul Kursi.

e) Surah Mulk.

f) Surah Thakaathur.

g) Surah Ikhlaas.

h) Surah Zilzaal.iii

Where to stand at the Qabr side:

Is better to stand at the legside of the Qabr, facing the direction of the face. iv

There are virtues narrated in a Hadith with regard to visiting the grave of one’s mother. So, in the case of having two deceased relatives such as a brother and a mother, if it is difficult for a person to visit both the graves then one may go to visit the grave of his mother and make Esaal-e-Thawaab (convey the reward of good deeds) for his brother.v
