Question: 

Is it fine to use a itr which says "free from alcohol" but then says contains benzyl alcohol, is the better view to abstain? 

Answer: 

The view of our Darul Ifta is that one should utilize alcohol-free Itr irrespective of whether the alcohol is derived from grapes or other sources, as totally alcohol-free products are easily available on the market. Hence, we recommend that even though the label says “free from alcohol”, if the Itr contains benzyl alcohol, we would still advise abstention.
