Question:
Is it permissible for a woman to plait her hair with wool?
Answer:
A married woman should only have extensions plaited into her hair for medical reasons and with the permission of her husband. Also, it is not permissible to use human hair for this purpose. A halaal animal’s hair, wool and other Paak (pure/clean) items may be used as a treatment.
It is mentioned in “Mirqaat” that an unmarried woman is not permitted to add on extensions to her hair. A married woman should have the consent of her husband.
It is also important not to fall in line with imitating the fashion and lifestyles of the Kuffaar; hence the current fashion trend of utilizing synthetic wigs, etc. in emulation of western lifestyle would not be permissible.i
