I bought a fridge from a friend of mine approximately two and a half years ago. At the time of purchase he said to me that if ever you have a problem with the fridge don't worry and just give us a call even if the warranty has expired.
The fridge came with a two year warranty. In the past month the fridge began to give problems so I called him and told him about it. He sent me a new receipt dated just under two years ago and sent the manufacturer (defy) to assess the fridge.
The electrician that came after assessing the fridge and viewing the receipt (dated within two years) decided to exchange the fridge for a new fridge.
Truthfulness and honesty are the cardinal principles of Islam and Islam does not allow to deceiving anyone whether the person is Muslim or Non-Muslim. Consider the following Ahaadeeth, Rasoolullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam said:
من غش فليس منا ) مسلم ١٠٢ /الترمذي ١٣١٥ )
“Whoever deceives, is not from amongst us.”
Rasoolullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam also said:
لا يحل مال امرئ إلا بطيب نفس منه)مشكاة ٢٩٤٦ مسند احمد شرح معاني الآثار(
“The wealth of a person is not permissible except with the happiness of his heart.”
The commentator of the Hadeeth Allamah Ali al Qari Rahimahullah says that امرئ here refers to both Muslim and Non-muslim. Hence, whatever is gained by deceiving somebody will be classified as Haraam. The product, commodity, or object that came through by this means into a person’s possession will be deemed Haraam and he will be obliged to return it to the owner; if that is not possible, then that commodity should be given out in charity.
Therefore, if the exchanged fridge has come into your possession already, it will be impermissible for you to use that fridge. Rather, it should be given away in charity.i

i رواه البيهقي في " شعب الإيمان "، والدارقطني في " المجتبى " - - . » ألا لا تظلموا، ألا لا يحل مال امرئ إلا بطيب نفس منه « " قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم )" لا يحل مال امرئ "( أي: مسلم أو ذمي )" إلا بطيب نفس "( أي: بأمر أو رضا منه. ) مرقاة المفاتيح ٢٩٤٦ )
* أخذه مورثه رشوة أو ظلما، إن علم ذلك بعينه لا يحل له أخذه، وإلا فله أخذه حكما أما في الديانة فيتصدق به… وإن كان مالا مختلطا مجتمعا من الحرام ولا يعلم أربابه ولا شيئا منه بعينه حل له حكما، والأحسن ديانة التنزه عنه وفي الذخيرة: سئل أبو جعفر عمن اكتسب ماله من أمر السلطان والغرامات المحرمة، وغير ذلك هل يحل لمن عرف ذلك أن يأكل من طعامه؟ قال: أحب إلي في دينه أن لا يأكل ويسعه حكما إن لم يكن غصبا أو رشوة.)رد المحتار ٥ / ٩٩ ) *
وعلى هذا قالوا لو مات الرجل وكسبه من بيع الباذق أو الظلم أو أخذ الرشوة يتورع الورثة، ولا يأخذون منه شيئا وهو أولى بهم ويردونها على أربابها إن عرفوهم، وإلا تصدقوا بها لأن سبيل الكسب الخبيث التصدق إذا تعذر الرد على صاحبه…) رد المحتار ٦ / ٣٨
