There is no absolutely no issue and problem with the husband assisting his wife in fulfilling the household chores or even assisting with the kids. In fact, assisting one’s family in the home should be carried out with the intention of acting upon the Sunnah of Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam for which one will be rewarded. Therefore, there is absolutely no problem with it.

Yes, Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam did stipulate that the external work should be carried out by Ali Radhiallahu Anhu and the internal duties will be entrusted to Hadrat Fatima Radhiallahu Anha. But obviously this in no way means or indicates that a man cannot or should not assist in fulfilling the household chores particularly when Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam himself fulfilled many of the household chores himself.
