Question:

Is it permissible to give "paras" for the Khatm of a sick person or a Marhoom, and can everyone make a Yaseen Khatm together?

Answer:
Some Ulama have written that it is fundamentally permissible to recite Quraan in a group form but better not to do so, whilst others have stated that doing so is Makrooh.

However, many a times participation in such recitals is enforced upon individuals and if one does not attend, then he is looked down upon. Regarding a permissible or optional act to be obligatory renders it to be a Bid’ah (innovation.) Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam is reported to have said, “Refrain from innovations, for every innovation is deviation, and every deviation will (lead one) into the fire of Jahannam.” Hence, if a gathering is established specifically for this purpose, it should be avoided.

Yes, if a particular family member decides to recite the entire Quraan for the pleasure of Allah and pass over the rewards to a deceased family member, and in order to do so he/she keeps his/her set of 30 Paras perhaps in the lounge and commences recitation. Now visiting guests also recite (a Juz from the set) for the deceased without being coerced to do so, or without being looked down upon if they do not engage or participate in recitation, then there is no harm in doing so. The same applies to Yaseen Khatm.
