Question:
1) Why are women not allowed to wear fake jewellery during salah?
2) Why are men not allowed to wear silk? (reason why as I know, prophet prohibited)
3) Are men
allowed to wear platinum?
Answer:
1. Firstly, women are not allowed to wear artificial rings (other than gold and silver); however, they are permitted to wear other artificial jewelries i.e. necklaces, ear rings, etc... Hence, there will be no abomination in Salah as long as the jewelry is not an artificial ring. Moreover, with artificial rings, Salah will be valid with abomination. (Kitabun Nawazil Vol. 15 Pg. 460)
2. It is prohibited for men to wear silk through numerous Ahadith. Moreover, the actual reasoning is the command of Shariah. Hence, a wisdom of the prohibition was to warn the Ummah from indulging in the luxuries of this world as this is not the ultimate abode and all our wishes and desires will not be fulfilled here; rather, we should aim for Jannah and forsake excessive luxuries. (Fataawa Diniyyah Vol. 5 Pg. 173)
3. Men are only allowed to wear a silver ring that weighs less than one Mithqal (approximately 4.374 grams). Any material other than silver is prohibited for men. (Fatawa Mahmudiyyah Vol. 14 Pg 420)
